Grid
Integration.
A generation asset is only as valuable as its ability to export power reliably and efficiently to the grid. Helium Power Energy's power systems engineers manage the full technical and commercial grid connection process — from initial network studies through to physical commissioning and long-term grid code compliance — for assets up to 400 kV across multiple jurisdictions.
Connected.
Compliant. Optimised.
Grid Connection Studies
Load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, power quality assessments, and protection coordination — delivered in formats accepted by all major TSOs and DNOs. We interface directly with National Grid ESO, REE, RTE, and TenneT.
Transmission Network Design
HV/EHV substation design (11 kV to 400 kV), transformer sizing, overhead line and cable routing, insulation coordination, and earthing system design — fully compliant with IEC 60071, BS EN 61936, and local grid codes.
Grid Code Compliance
Full G99, G100, ENTSO-E RfG, and IEC 61400-21 compliance packages including reactive power capability curves, LVRT/HVRT modelling, frequency response settings, and type-testing coordination with OEMs.
Grid Interface Optimisation
Power Factor Correction (PFC/SVG), harmonic filter design, transformer tap optimisation, and real-time voltage/VAR control systems. Maximises export revenue by reducing curtailment and reactive power charges.
Global Regulatory
Expertise.
From Application
to First Export.
Pre-Application Enquiry
Early-stage dialogue with the network operator to identify the connection point, indicative capacity, and assess any reinforcement requirements on the existing network.
Offer & Acceptance
Managing the offer negotiation process, challenging unreasonable reinforcement costs, and advising on contract terms — including the Transmission Connection Asset (TCA) boundary.
Detailed Design & Testing
Substation, protection relay, and SCADA detailed design. Factory acceptance testing (FAT) of key equipment. Coordinating OEM and DNO/TSO interfaces throughout detailed design.
Commissioning & Energisation
On-site commissioning support, protection commissioning, and coordinating energisation with the network operator — targeting a seamless path to first export.
Our Grid Integration
Advantage.
Grid connection is frequently the critical path item for any generation project. Our in-house power systems team compresses timescales by managing the entire process in parallel with EPC delivery, and our established TSO/DNO relationships unlock faster responses and better connection terms.
